Popular social media influencer and previously prominent PN supporter Terry Muscat, affectionately known as Zija TT and Terry Ta’ Bormla, has announced she will not be contesting the upcoming local council elections in June after all.

“I had no idea, I swear, this is not some excuse I’m coming up with,” Terry said in an emotional 18-minute video posted on Facebook this afternoon. “I have to be honest, this is against my will.”

“It’s so sad when you have something so close to your heart and you can’t continue doing it,” Terry continued saying. “I wished to be a force of good for the people of Bormla.”
Revealing she was going to officially apply tomorrow, Terry went on to say she was not aware that she “couldn’t”, because of a call which felt “threatening”.
“I was told that if I run for the Local Council Elections in Bormla and I’m elected as a councillor for the people of Bormla, I wouldn’t be able to ever work in Bormla again,” she said. “And I chose the interest of my job, not because I don’t like giving my all to Bormla, because I will continue until God grants me strength to continue working for the people of Bormla.”

“I believe the majority of Bormla residents were with me,” Muscat  said in both her written statement and lengthy video.

“And they will remain with me, and I know what I’m saying,” she went on. “Because they would always say the same thing, that if I don’t run, they wouldn’t vote for anyone else.”

Terry recounted how, according to the many people who spoke to her, she’s “a person who really used to care about us and work for us.”

Muscat had announced she would be running in the upcoming June elections back in January.

“I want to be someone to lean on for all Bormla residents and I want to work hard to see Bormla being better than what it already is,” she had said on social media. “Even though Bormla is already perfect, I need to continue working, because there’s still so much that needs changing.”

In a video interview with Lovin Malta a couple of weeks later, Terry gave her views on everything from gay and trans rights in Malta to a nasty incident involving a cab driver.
