Swieqi local council candidate Jordan Galea Pace has announced in a recent video that his grandmother, Vivienne Galea Pace, will be running for the Sliema Local Council again. Both contesting on the Nationalist Party ticket.

“I want to keep our elderly engaged in activities and take them out, especially those who have lost their loved ones and need solidarity and outings to meet new people,” Vivienne Galea Pace told Lovin Malta.

In a video shared by Jordan, he stated that he had been assisting his grandmother with house visits to support her campaign. However, she’s not new to politics.

Vivienne is a current councillor within her locality and she was the mayor of Rabat Gozo back in 2003.

When asked if he had learned a lot from his grandmother regarding politics, Jordan responded, “Yes, she’s taught me how to be resilient, determined, and to never give up on what I believe in. She learned a lot from my grandfather, who was a member of parliament, and she passed on everything she learned. Her number one rule is, ‘Remain close to people and help them in the best way you can!’”

Regarding her age, Jordan mentioned, “A good 78 and going strong – her exact words.”

When asked why she decided to run for the Sliema local council, Jordan explained, “Because she believes she can help the elderly residents in Sliema and she feels as though her job isn’t finished in securing their safety and wellbeing.”

On how politics affects her, Jordan shared, “Politics gives her pleasure to work and serve the people and also keeps her active on the day-to-day. She also says it keeps her mentally and physically young.”

Vivienne expressed pride in her grandson’s campaign, stating, “I’m super proud of my grandson for what he’s achieved and I see my belated husband’s determination in him, so it fills me with joy and courage for the future of youths in Malta. The only shock I had during this campaign was finding out my grandson was in an accident on Lovin Malta.”

When asked about her plans for Sliema if elected, Jordan relayed her intentions: “I’m determined to continue fighting for our elderly and their safety, especially with the pavements and increasing the environmental aesthetic of the place; just what my son and grandson fight for with their NGO. Also, I want to keep our elderly engaged in activities and take them out, especially those who have lost their loved ones and need solidarity and outings to meet new people.”
