Watch: Jason Azzopardi And Robert Aquilina Urge Police To Investigate Alleged Fortina Fraud
Former MP Jason Azzopardi and former Repubblika President Robert Aquilina urged the Police to investigate the Fortina land transfer over irregularities raised by the Auditor General this morning.
Yesterday, the National Audit Office (NAO) published its findings into the deal, noting that a key valuation report had been concealed, allowing the Fortina group to pay significantly less than market price for the land.
Azzopardi and Aquilina’s complaint was filed on behalf of the Falcone Foundation.
The Falcone Foundation is an NGO that promotes legality, justice and the fight against crime. It also promotes the rule of law in society, particularly through the education of the young.
In a Facebook post written today, Aquilina said that their complaint indicated former OPM Chief of Staff Keith Schembri and former Lands Authority CEO Carlo Mifsud as the main suspects.
the complaint quoted 27 paragraphs from the Auditor General’s report in which “the criminal involvement of Schembri and Mifsud is clearly revealed.”
Azzopardi and Aquilina listed the following crimes; Criminal Conspiracy, Concealment of traces of a crime, Bribery, Trading in Influence, Fraud, Disclosure of Official Secrets, False Declarations to a Public Authority and Money Laundering.
“Through this morning’s denunciation we are formally demanding that the Police investigations be carried out and that the Commissioner request the opening of a magisterial inquiry,” Aquilina continued.
“We will use all the tools given to us by the law so that the Maltese People obtain justice for this theft, so that those responsible are brought to justice and so that the stolen millions are returned to the People.”
