At 4.30pm, an urgent press call was issued on Abela’s statement, while he was in the middle of a heated parliamentary session just down the road from Castille.

Earlier this afternoon, Repubblika was informed that suspects named in the Vitals inquiry will be charged in court, with its lawyer Jason Azzopardi saying that Central Bank Governor and former Finance Minister Edward Scicluna is facing “serious criminal charges that could lead to a potential imprisonment”.
Meanwhile, former Prime Minister Joseph Muscat came out strongly against the way charges are being issued in connection with the Vitals magisterial inquiry, calling the procedure “no longer just political vendetta but has transformed itself into an obscenity (pastażata) and an abomination where the lives of several people are being thrown into the bureaucratic trash for several years to satisfy the convenience of a few.”
Last Friday, it was revealed that Joseph Muscat was included in a long list of people and companies suspected by the Attorney General of money laundering in connection with the Vitals-Steward magisterial inquiry. Other key figures in the list include former OPM chief of staff Keith Schembri, former minister Konrad Mizzi, former Nexia BT partners Brian Tonna and Karl Cini, Technoline managing director Ivan Vassallo, Ram Tumuluri and several original Vitals investors, Steward CEO Ralph de la Torre, Steward International CEO Armin Ernst, and former Allied Newspapers managing director Adrian Hillman.
