Watch: PN MP Uses Donuts To Explain Taxes And The Safeguarding Role Of His Party
PN MP Darren Carabott in a video posted on Facebook, used a box of donuts to explain the concept of taxes and why they are paid and distributed in Malta.
This is not the first time the MP has used food to demonstrate financial concepts, previously using Big Macs to explain price fluctuations in different countries as well as inflation.
“If we pay our taxes, shouldn’t we care how they are being spent and distributed?” he questioned.
He explained how one of his roles is to chair the Public Accounts Committee, a Parliament body set up to investigate any inconsistencies or issues pointed out by the Auditor General, and how people shouldn’t take on a partisna approach when it comes to taxpayer money.
“The opposition should not be criticised for scrutinising the government, as it is the role of the opposing party to keep the government accountable,” he said.
He went on to add how, if one of the donuts were to go missing, one would question it, and this extends to public funds. Therefore showing how the PN is in a unique position to criticise from the outside, the current government when issues of tax misappropriation arise.
Do you agree that the PN’s role as a watchdog is being filled?
