Watch: Robert Abela Accuses ‘Foreign’ Experts Of ‘Snatching’ €11 Million For Vitals Inquiry
Prime Minister Robert Abela accused “foreign experts” of “snatching” €11 million for the Vitals Inquiry, once again undermining the report process.
“I’d like to know who these experts are, foreigners, that snatched €11 million. So, the population doesn’t have the right to know whether it’s true that they gave 11 million in direct orders to the magistrate?” he said during a press conference, insinuating that they were paid too much.
He questioned whether this amount was necessary while in the same breath applauded the government for giving resources to the judiciary.
“So first, they spend a month saying that this government doesn’t give enough resources to the judiciary. Certain people that form part of the ‘establishment’ left the country and tried to smear our name to the EU saying that this government doesn’t give resources to the judiciary. This is one inquiry, out of many, that cost €11 million.”
He questioned these experts intensely, saying that their only interest is to do the exercise and get paid, pointing out that they are not bound by an oath like Malta’s magistrates are.
Abela urged the public to be critical about the way the inquiry was carried out and said that the moment has come to talk “seriously” about reforming the process of how magisterial inquiries are conducted.
Do you think Abela went too hard against the inquiry process?
