Watch: Roberta Metsola Visits Pope Francis For ‘Extensive Talks’ At The Vatican
Roberta Metsola, President of the European Parliament and Maltese MEP, has just met with Pope Francis in a private audience lasting around 30 minutes at the Vatican. Their discussions spanned several pressing topics on the European agenda, reflecting the shared values of peace, humanity, and unity.
One of the central issues was Ukraine, with President Metsola emphasising the European Union’s support for the country amid the ongoing conflict with Russia.
She reiterated that the EU, as a project grounded in peace, remains committed to backing Ukraine in the face of what she described as Russia’s “unprovoked and unjustified aggression”.
Migration also featured prominently in their conversation. President Metsola mentioned the need for a compassionate, European-wide approach to migration- one that does not leave any country or individual without necessary support or protection.
