Watch: ‘We Need Your Voice, We Need Healthy Discussion’ – GħSL President Appeals To Students
After stepping away from the mic propped in front of the law courts in Valletta, GħSL President Andrew Drago spoke to Lovin Malta and appealed to students afraid to speak out to be “courageous and vigilant”.
“I understand if you’re afraid, but my appeal is that you have the right to be heard, we need your voice, we need a healthy discussion, if it’s not us, then who is it?” Drago told the newsroom at last night’s protest.
“These statements need to come out of university, that’s one of the principle functions of a university.”
“While I understand where they are coming from I cannot recognise that as an excuse for not stating what you believe in. I believe that the values that you hold are to be stated and to be stated publicly. Be courageous and remain vigilant,” he concluded.
During the quick interview, the newsroom’s Tim Diacono asked Drago who he believes the establishment is.
“I hope not me after this speech,” he jokingly remarked.
“I don’t know. In my view, the establishment is those who are in power, naturally that would be the government but I don’t know who the establishment is at the moment.”
