What Day Of Silence? Political Ads Still Going Round A Day Before Elections

As Malta gears up for the MEP and local council elections, the islands are meant to be observing the traditional “day of silence,” a pause in political promotions meant to give voters a quiet period for reflection before casting their ballots.

Despite this, several political ads have been slipping through on social media this morning. Notably, ads from Opposition Leader Bernard Grech, along with Labour MEP candidates Alex Agius Saliba and Daniel Attard, are still active.

The day of reflection law was drafted back in 1991 long before social media and since then there have been many questions about the effectiveness and enforcement of this rule in the digital age.
