Yachting Malta Chairperson Jonathan Borg Replaces Transport Malta CEO After Less Than A Year

At the beginning of next month, Jonathan Borg – current Chairperson of Yachting Malta – will take over the role of Transport Malta CEO.

Transport Minister Aaron Farrugia thanked the previous CEO, and former AFM commander, Jeffrey Curmi for his work.

Curmi – whose career was wracked by scandal during his AFM command – served as TM CEO for less than a year, having taken it up last June.

Throughout this relatively brief tenure, tensions have continued to rise between members of the Maltese public and TM – as a result of our transport infrastructure becoming increasingly dangerous and deadly.

The new TM CEO has a challenging and important task ahead of him.

Though he will be bringing 35 years worth of experience in the maritime sector to this role, it remains to be seen how much this experience translate into a smooth, effective and productive leadership over TM – and the many land-based transport challenges it is facing.

News of Borg’s rise came just two weeks after it was reported that he had signed on as a TM chairperson.

At the time, Former Secretary General of the European Green Party Arnold Cassola questioned whether this appointment could mean that Curmi would not be staying on as CEO.

Cassola’s suspicions have been proven to be valid with today’s news.
