‘You Don’t Go To People, People Come To You’: Joseph Muscat Explains Consultancy Gigs On Smash Interview
Former Prime Minister Joseph Muscat has explained how he’s not the one that goes “knocking on doors” when it comes to his consultancy gigs, but people go to him.
This was discussed during last night’s interview on Labour stalwart Emanuel Cuschieri’s show, Linja Diretta, aired on the local channel Smash TV.
“You think I go knocking on doors? You don’t go to people, people come to you,” Muscat said during last night’s interview.
Answering questions on his recent consultancy gigs, Muscat was explaining how abroad, this is what an ex-prime minister does – that people would go to them for consultancy after they’re no longer in office.
“I’ll give you a case in point, without mentioning any names, there was someone who had approached me, and he told me that he’d like me to start giving him advice, and asked me what I’d want in return for my advice,” he explained.
He continued to say how the client needed to hear some honest advice that could challenge his ideas, and he sought out Muscat for it because of his experience.
“They come to me because of my experience, or to make use of my contacts for business abroad,” he claimed.
“By time, you would have obtained a contact or two,” he chuckled. “So in this way, you can help these people.”
Over the last few weeks, a number of consultancy jobs that Muscat has been paid for have been revealed, with the latest one being for an €11,800 monthly consultancy fee for a bird company owner.
