It looks like the world’s fastest man will not be moving to Malta in the near future.

After Valletta FC confirmed yesterday it had offered Usain Bolt a two-year contract, the sprinter-turned-footballer’s agent confirmed his client has no intention of starting a career in the Maltese Premier League.

“There is a lot of interest in Usain playing football,” Ricky Simms told ESPN. “We regularly receive similar approaches. I can confirm Usain does not wish to pursue this opportunity in Malta.”

Valletta FC CEO and managing director Ghasston Slimen said the club wishes Bolt all the best with his football career and promised the offer will remain on the table if he changes his mind.

Valletta’s move for Bolt, 32, was the first statement of intent from its new owners, the UAE-based Sanban Group, which pledged to take the Maltese champions to the group stages of the Champions League.

Bolt is currently training with the Central Coast Mariners in the Australian A-League but has yet to sign a professional contract with the club.

Central Coast CEO Shaun Mielekamp told ESPN “it’s too early to tell” whether the club would grant Bolt a contract.
