Maltese ultra-athlete and beast Fabio Spiteri’s Deca Ultra Triathlon has officially kicked off in Brazil!

The feat, which has never been completed by any other Maltese man, brings together a 3.8km swim, a 180km bike ride, and a 42km run – every day, for ten days straight.

The world cup race is being held in Brazil, and when he completes this Herculean daily trial – ten times – he’ll have covered 38km of water, 1,800km of cycle paths, and 420km of running routes.

This means that once the challenge has been completed, 48-year-old Fabio will have covered a distance equivalent to more than half of the length of Brazil – the world’s fifth-largest country.

This physical challenge is a gauntlet being faced in support of Fabio’s love of animals as he aims to raise €100,000 for overwhelmed local animal shelters.
