End Of An Era: Malta’s Captain Steve Borg Honoured In Emotional Farewell

There wasn’t a dry eye at the National Stadium yesterday, as Malta bid farewell to one of its players, Steve Borg.

After 14 years, 81 international matches and a career defined by heart, grit, and leadership, Borg stepped onto the pitch one last time ahead of Malta’s friendly against Bosnia & Herzegovina.

Fans stood united, applauding a man who has given everything for the red shirt.

Over his incredible career, Borg scored three international goals and captained Malta with pride, becoming a true role model for players and supporters alike.

From his Malta debut in 2011 to his final bow in 2025, Steve Borg has been the heartbeat of Maltese football, a warrior, and a captain in every sense of the word.
