Popular Serie A football club Fiorentina will be heading to Malta this weekend to continue their commitments after the New Year break. Back in December, rumours were rife that the football club could be heading to our islands, even though there was reportedly some initial competition from some Spanish sites.

Fiorentina will be in Malta for a training camp between 6th January (this Sunday) and 10th January, making this visit the first time that they brought their full squad to the island.

The four-day training camp will come to a close with Fiorentina participating in a triangular tournament with Maltese sides Gżira and Hibernians, who are currently tied for first place in the BOV Premier League.

This tournament will be held on Wednesday 9th January at 5.45pm at the Ta’ Qali National Stadium, two days before Fiorentina’s Coppa Italia tie against Torino.

Hibs will be the first to face Fiorentina on Wednesday evening, with Gżira playing the final match against the Italian side at 8pm. Tickets for the tournament will be on sale as of next Monday and prices range from €8 to non-members to free for under 12s.

Last year, Malta’s Fiorentina fan club the Viola Club held a number of events in celebration of their 50 year anniversary, but it seems like 2019 is already off to a just as successful of a year for the fans of the Serie A side who beat giants AC Milan just before Christmas Day.
