Maltese tennis star Francesca Curmi has done it again, defeating her highest-ranked opponent who’s currently listed a whole 213 spots higher than her.

Yesterday evening, Curmi – who’s currently ranked 484 on the Women’s Tennis Association Top 500 – went up against Italy’s Nuri Brancaccio, 271st on the same list.

The young Maltese player came out on top, earning a spot among seven others to compete in the final frame of the I Open Villa de Madrid.

Curmi now faces Sinja Kraus from Austria, another tough opponent who’s ranked nearly 300 positions higher at 195.

Considering the amazing couple of years Curmi has had and the fact that she had just gone up a whole six ranks in the last few weeks, there’s clearly so much more the Maltese athlete can and is striving to achieve, and we wish her all the best!

Well done Francesca!
