From Hitting Synthetic To Boxing Bags: Żabbar Gym Offers Free Sessions To Get People ‘Off The Streets’

A boxing coach in Żabbar is offering free sessions to get people of the streets and away from their drug addictions and move towards a healthy lifestyle.

Gym owner Kurt Muscat spoke to Lovin Malta about times when he was young and his friends couldn’t train at a gym because their parents couldn’t finance a gym membership for them.

This inspired him to launch his own generous initiative with the intent of helping people get off drugs and start training hard.

“I had a kid who used to smoke weed, later on, he started abusing synthetic weed,” he recounted.

“When his mum would turn on the lights he would shake his head and close his eyes as this would trigger him. However, when we took him under our wing and brought him into the gym, he changed his lifestyle around and stopped abusing drugs.”

The gym mainly practices boxing and fitness, however on occasion, other physical activities such as swimming are also offered.

Muscat told Lovin Malta that the gym currently has around 15 members, including kids who suffer from some sort of mental condition that boxing helps them cope with.

And when a new member joins the gym they get handed a free t-shirt and a cap.

If you or anyone you know would like to start boxing and fitness with Muscat and his team for absolutely free, don’t hesitate to shoot them a message on their Facebook page which can be found here.

Lovin Malta wishes Muscat the best of luck and support on this amazing idea
