Futsal for the visually impaired – and even blind – has been made real in Malta through the announcement of a brand new development project.

The project was announced by the Futsal Malta Association (FMA) as part of their mission to deliver the game to those who suffer a form of visual disability.

It also marked a watershed moment for the association, who has celebrated its tenth anniversary at the same event.

In collaboration with the International Blind Sports Association (IBSA) and Malta Paralympic Committee (MPC), technical officials were able to deliver a holistic and practical program over a two-day seminar with the sole scope of tailor-making the sport according to the athletes’ needs.

Training adaptations, pitch orientation, drills, game-play, and rules for appropriate training within an inclusive environment were all covered to make the game as effective – and enjoyable – as possible.

FMA President Mark Borg remarked futsal for the visually impaired “is a milestone project for our association, representing both our ethos and social responsibility. We are committed to reaching out to the community in order to fulfil our objectives.”

Further details on the VI Para Sport project will be launched in the coming weeks and individuals with visual impairments, or their parents or guardians, are invited to get in touch via [email protected]
