Gianluigi Buffon’s Son Louis Nets First Czechia Hat-Trick In Ta’ Qali Qualifier
Louis Thomas Buffon, the 17-year-old son of legendary Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon, delivered a breakout performance in Malta on Thursday, scoring his first-ever hat-trick for Czechia’s Under-19 side in a 6-1 victory over Azerbaijan at Ta’ Qali.
Playing as a striker — a sharp contrast to his father’s iconic career between the posts — Louis looked unstoppable throughout the European Championship qualifier. The Pisa forward struck three goals and provided an assist, marking his first goals for Czechia at U19 level in just his fifth appearance.
Buffon, born to Italian football royalty and Czech TV presenter Alena Seredova, has chosen to represent his mother’s country at youth level. He began his career in Juventus’ academy before moving to Pisa in 2023, making his Serie A debut last month under coach Alberto Gilardino, another member of Italy’s 2006 World Cup-winning squad.
His star turn comes just months after his father, Gigi Buffon, drew warm attention in Malta during a promotional visit that saw him feature on a parade float and interact with local fans. Now, his son has created his own Maltese moment — this time on the pitch.
Louis’ standout performance at Ta’ Qali puts him firmly on the radar as one of Europe’s rising attacking talents, and his decisive display helped Czechia take a commanding step forward in their qualifying campaign.
