Gżira United Earns Hard-Fought Draw In Austria Setting Up Enticing Second Leg In Malta

Gżira United’s impressive defensive form in the qualifying stages of the Europa Conference League has continued after earning a 0-0 draw in Austria against Wolfsberg.

That means that Darren Abdilla’s side is so far unbeaten in the qualifying stages, setting up what could be a potentially historic second-leg tie in Malta on Tuesday 9th August.

Wolfsberg, who made it to the round of 32 in last year’s Europa League, had very few chances in the game with Gżira United putting in a highly-organised display.

This year, Maltese teams have made the island proud in the Europa Conference League. Both Hibernians and Ħamrun Spartans have also made it to the third round of this major tournament.

For their next qualifying rounds, which will take place on Thursday, Hibernians will be playing against RFS (Latvia), while Ħamrun Spartans will be facing off with Levski Sofia (Bulgaria).
