Half Of Malta Table Tennis Association Members Vote To Remove President And Vice President

The Malta Table Tennis Association (MTTA) has removed its President John Sciberras, and Vice-President Kevin Cutajar, following a vote of no confidence during an Extraordinary General Meeting held on 26th June.
“The EGM was convened following a formal plea signed by over 50% of the Association’s paid-up members. The motion was passed by an overwhelming majority, reflecting the will of MTTA members for a change in leadership,” the association said in a press release.
While the MTTA did not share specific reasons behind the decision, it’s understood the vote was related to dissatisfaction with how the committee was being run.
The timing also raises questions on whether the move was triggered by recent concerns raised by three-time national champion Gabriel Grixti.
In the meantime, the remaining members of the Executive Council will assume day-to-day responsibilities in a caretaker capacity.
As for the future of MTTA, a EGM for the election of a new President and Vice- President will be called in the coming weeks.
The MTTA reaffirmed its commitment to improving sports governance, prioritising athlete development and promoting transparency, fairness, and collaboration with national and international bodies.
The association also thanked members for participating in what it called an important democratic process.
What do you make of this very clear vote of no confidence?
