For the first time in history, Malta’s judo team came back home with two bronze models won during the Tunis African Open.

Judoku Katryna Esposito won bronze in the -48kgs category, while Isaac Bezzina also won bronze in the -100kgs category.

“This is Katryna’s first continental medal! Super proud of our national sportswoman of the year!” the Malta Judo Federation and Associated Disciplines said on Sunday.

“Super proud of our team, led by Sensei Aurelian Ciprian Fleisz. Well done, team!”

“Special thanks to the NDSF funds, without which this participation would not have been possible.”

The latest games form part of the run-up towards the Games of the Small States of Europe, a multi-sport event to be held later this year in Malta.

Well done Katryna and Issac!
