Malta’s hot streak in international sport over the weekend continued after the country’s Under-21 football team beat Turkmenistan in a hard-fought victory.

Aidan Friggeri grabbed a stunning winner in a 2-1 victory over Turkmenistan, the first friendly international in Antalya during this intensive training camp in Turkey

After Malta went ahead with a Zachary Brincat goal, Turkmenistan levelled from a dubious penalty before Friggieri’s dazzling goal sealed the result.

A Turkish referee ordered the penalty after a handball that looked to have occurred just outside the box.

Over the weekend, Malta’s senior team got their first international home victory in 13 years in a nail-biting match against the Faroe Islands, the first of their Euro 2020 qualifying campaign.

Meanwhile, Malta has its very own boxing champion and its first-ever gold medal winner in weightlifting at the European Small Nations.

All of this comes just days after the country’s Special Olympics athletes came back with 40 medals.
