Watch: Maltese Athlete Prepares To Run For 24 Hours Straight Raising Money For Local Soup Kitchen
Endurance athlete Steve Sammut Nurminen is currently preparing for a continuous 24-hour run through which he plans to raise money for the Soup Kitchen OFM – Valletta.
“A single mean costs €4,” Sammut Nurminen said on social media.
The soup kitchen is situated in Valletta and it serves food to those in need. Just last year, the kitchen fed over 30,000 men, women, and children by serving a whopping 120,000 meals.
The soup kitchen has further received international recognition for its incredible and necessary work. In fact, it was this year’s winner of the European Citizen’s Award.
To help the charitable organisation meet local demands, Sammut Nurminen will be running for 24 hours straight. This is not the first time the athlete has run for this noble cause. Earlier this year, he completed a 365km run in Sicily through which he raised over €6,000 for the soup kitchen.
Now, the ultra-endurance athlete has pledged to donate one meal to the kitchen for every kilometre he runs around the Univeristy of Malta track between December 2nd and 3rd.
However, this is not a challenge he aims to complete alone.
The public is invited to join the Move for Meals challenge too.
Walk or run around the track, at your own pace, to show your support for the cause. There will be pitstops with food and drink stalls to help fuel you too.
Fitness sessions and races will also be held throughout the day. Activities include a 4-mile adult race, a 1-mile kids race, yoga, pilates, mobility classes, HYROX, and a full-body morning workout.
The cost of the classes will go towards the soup kitchen and if you’re interested in registering, click here.
If you don’t want to physically participate but still help out this charitable cause, donate via Revolut to +356 7904 9126, BOV app: +356 99450718, or here. And remember, one meal costs just €4.
