Two 17-year-old Maltese boxers are off to represent Malta in the biggest and most prestigious World Boxing Championships in Spain.

The two boys, Dyson Schembri and Bradley Mula, train at Malta’s Fight Factory Home of Champions gym, together with National Head Coach Gabrielle Martelli.

“Both started with us in 2019 at the European schoolboys’ championships in Tbilisi, Georgia, at just 13 years of age,” the Malta Boxing Federation told Lovin Malta.

“As part of our national team development strategy, our focus is to build the members from an early age,” it explained.

Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic stole more than one full year of competition from the boys. However, during the pandemic, the MBF arranged several training camps in Poland and Italy in order to keep developing their skills and experience in the expectation of future competitions.

“Now at 17 years of age, they are representing Malta as the national team at the Youths World Championship.”

The strategy of the Malta Boxing Federation is to continue developing their skills, the ultimate goal being to qualify Malta for the Olympic Games.

Good luck Dyson and Bradley!
