Maltese footballer Martina Borg was instrumental in Sassari Torres’ promotion to Serie B after scoring in a 10 – 0 win against Ducato Spoleto.
Borg featured in the starting lineup for the match and scored in the 30th minute as her side went on to dominate Ducato Spoleto in a highly one-sided showing.
Sassari sits atop of Serie C with a total of 58 points with a five-point cushion from second place Arezzo. Meanwhile, Spoleto sits at last place and has managed to secure just one point all season.
The Malta Football Association congratulated Borg on her “hard-fought” promotion and “for her performances that have been crucial for her team’s cause.”
Borg isn’t the only Maltese football player to have earned a promotion plying her trade in the Italian league. Last month, Rachel Cuschieri and Emma Lipman secured promotion to Serie A following Lazio’s derby win against Roma Calcio.
Lipman and Cuschieri will be joining football wonderkid Haley Bugeja, who was proven to be one of the standout players in Serie A last season, having been voted Best Young Player.
