Indeed, it was also a first for Pain Train, who despite being sired in Sweden rode his master to victory on the day.
The competition – The Halmstad Travet – fielded horses aged three to five years, and welcomed ten total competitors, nine of whom were Swedish nationals.
On the day, a four-year-old Pain Train clocked a time of 2:43:40 over a distance of 2,140m, narrowly edging past the second-placed Swede Kyrie Eleison in a close finish.
“I was beside myself with joy,” Warren told Lovin Malta.
“To win in such a way is every rider’s dream. And achieving it… I just couldn’t believe it.”
