Maltese swimmer Kyle Micallef competed in the 50-metre Olympic freestyle event earlier today at Paris La Defense Arena, where he placed second in his heat but did not qualify for the semifinals.

Micallef competed in Heat 5, finishing second with a time of 22.89 seconds, just 0.18 seconds behind Fiji’s David Young.

Despite his strong performance in the heat, Micallef ranked 41st overall and did not advance to the semifinals.

This was Micallef’s debut in the Olympic Games. Currently studying in the United States, he set a national record in the 50m freestyle with a time of 22.80 seconds at the European Aquatics Championships in Belgrade earlier this July.
