Snooker, billiards and pool all offer different challenges, but from pubs to clubs to competitions, they offer an accessible option for anyone hoping to pick up a cue. Malta has many talented pool players and last night two of them faced off.

The Mens’ European 8-ball pool championships took place on Wednesday in Ħal Qormi where Ryan Pisani clinched the title in a hard-fought race to eight frames against Miguel Amato.

Before the game, Amato said, “I’m looking forward to the challenge of playing Ryan – he’s a top player and a true professional so whatever the result I know it’ll be a great match for us both”.

Amato of Tarxien Boċċi club trailed in the early stages after Pisani of Senglea Boċċi club strode ahead with a 4-1 lead at Għaqda Muzikali San Ġorħ Marti A.D 1893.

Amato then fired back to sink four consecutive frames to level the match at five frames apiece.

After the break, Pisani fired back to extend his lead over Amato: seven frames to five. With the final frame becoming increasingly tactical , both players found themselves trying to ‘snooker’ the other.

Pisani then finished off Amato to take home the title, winning eight frames to five.
