‘So Disappointing’: Maltese Liverpool Supporter Interviewed By The Athletic About Postponed Derby

When Jamie Sciberras flew from Malta with his dad Steve to watch his team Liverpool play Everton, he was hoping to return with some happy memories about the last ever Merseyside derby at Goodison Park.
And while Storm Darragh had other plans in mind, Jamie did at least manage to secure an interview with James Pearce, a prominent Liverpool FC journalist who works with The Athletic.
“We’ve been travelling to games together for over 20 years,” Jamie told James.
“We get to around 10 to 15 matches a season and when the fixtures came out the last league derby at Goodison was one away game we were desperate to get to.”
“On the train from Manchester to Liverpool on Friday, we heard the game was in some doubt with the police in talks with clubs due to the storms. We were up early on Saturday hoping for some good news but then came the alert at 8:30am that it was off. It’s so disappointing.”
A new date for the Merseyside derby will be announced in due course, and Liverpool will hope to remain at the top of the table when that day arrives.
Asked by Lovin Malta whether he thinks Liverpool will win the league this season, Jamie took a cautiously optimistic stance.
“I hope so but things are looking good at the moment. Hopefully me and my dad will be there to witness that if it happens.”
