The Future Is Female: These Young Maltese Sportswomen Are Currently Kicking Ass And Taking Names

Malta’s reputation in sports has been absolutely graced with the names of young Maltese sportswomen that have been absolutely smashing it.

In no particular order whatsoever, here are some of the top names of Maltese sportswomen and some of their latest achievements.

1. Janet Richard

23-year-old Janet Richard has consistently broken national records in athletics, having been named best athlete of the year by Athletics Malta.

Richard also recently claimed Malta’s first gold medal of the day in the 400 metres race held during the Championship for the Small States.

2. Francesca Curmi

19-year-old tennis starlet has truly been stealing all the spotlight abroad, having won two world titles in one week!

Curmi has etched her name in history, becoming the first Maltese female tennis player to win a pro tournament.

3. Kailey Willis

Another star in the making, 19-year-old Kailey Willis scored a total of 14 goals in 15 league games – that’s practically one goal per game – while playing for the Hellas Verona under-19 team.

4. Haley Bugeja

Having signed with Sassuolo at the young age of 16, Haley’s football future is as bright as it can get, as she continues to achieve great things for herself.

Just a few weeks back she was named 15th on an ESPN list of 21 best female players within the Under 21 category. And now, she was also named Serie A Player of the Month! 

5. Tenishia Thornton

The queen of weightlifting, Thornton has won Malta’s first-ever and only world championship titles for weightlifting.

Tenishia has smashed national records and is helping put Malta on the map after becoming the first person in the island’s history to win a medal at the world championships.

6. Katrina Catania

And finally, 11-year-old football prodigy Katrina has just been named the best player at the Juventus Academy World Cup.

During the Juventus Academy World Cup, team Malta actually made it to the final – and Katrina was then named the best overall player.
