Local golfer Laurens Schulze Doering is cleaving his way through competitions abroad, victory after victory, this time at the 62nd Hungarian Amateur Golf Open Championship.

His latest win marks the third success over the last couple of months after having placed first in Cyprus and Croatia in May and June respectively.

Laurens began with a score of two under par. This put him in the lead by two shots after the first day alone.

On the second day, he extended his lead to seven shots with a course record of seven under par.

On the final day, Lauren’s three bogeys, two birdies, and thirteen pars for a sore of one over par (and an aggregate of eight under par) sent him soaring to first place with a margin of three shots.

The competition welcomed 84 players in total, and consisted of three individual Stroke Play rounds (54 holes), with the field cut after the second day of the tournament (36 holes).

National team players Andrew Borg and JJ Micallef also competed at the three-day tournament, which began on the 15th of July at Zala Springs Golf Resort. They placed 23rd and 18th respectively.

The competition was a World Ranking event. Laurens’ third win in as many months has now seen him take the golfing scene by storm on foreign shores.

Well done Laurens
