Tributes Pour In For Quadbike Tragedy Victim: ‘A Peaceful Warrior Who Left Us Too Soon’
He was at the prime of his life: only 34 years old, a kickboxing champion and a father of a three-year-old girl. But his life came to a tragic end yesterday in a horrific quadbiking accident in Xgħajra. His friends and brother watched helplessly as he plunged to his death off a cliff.
Known as a helpful joker in Luxembourg where he worked with many other Maltese colleagues, the death of Reuben Azzopardi, has left people stunned.
“It’s going to be very quiet at work in 2017. Rest in peace, dear friend, we will surely miss your lively, generous and kind nature,” wrote one of his colleagues on Facebook.
“So sad that I never just told you to your face that you were the best colleague one could ever have. You were always there for us giving us your helping hand in any technical difficulty we encountered. And when you felt you yourself could not help, you would call someone and in no time at all come up with a solution or a suggestion. You always did your best to improve your skills and your attitude towards your colleagues was always exemplary. Your presence among us at the Department of Maltese in Luxembourg will be gravely missed. Rest in peace dear friend. Hoping to meet again,” wrote Tony Gaffiero.
Fellow martial artist Kevin Saliba described Azzopardi as “a true martial artist, student and friend”, while another described him as a “true peaceful warrior”
“Reuben was an excellent spirit combat and kick boxing instructor, a true champion, humble and full of love, but a true peaceful warrior. Miss you so much my friend all the great memories and laughter we had together. If I had to write about you I will make a whole book, while I am writing this I am seeing you, your innocence. May you rest in peace, will always be in mind and heart.”
