TVM Will Finally Get A Woman Sports Newscaster Again After 20 Years

For the first time in almost two decades, a woman, Joanna Camilleri, will be fronting TVM’s main sports bulletin.

The national broadcaster’s main sports bulletin has been devoid of women for almost two decades.

This isn’t her first time in front of a camera, nor is it her first introduction into the sporting scene. In fact, Camilleri has a résumé spanning from Judo gold-medalist to sports journalist, and even TV presenter for her own show Sports Panorama. And as if that weren’t impressive enough, Camilleri was also the first female commentator for water polo matches in Malta.

Sports on TVM follows the main news bulletin at around 8.30pm.

Camilleri seeks to be an inspiration for anyone looking to pursue a career in sports journalism and broadcasting, male or female.

“This is something I’ve been working towards for a while. I hope that, because a woman is going to be doing this, it will provide a necessary boost for women in sports and sports journalism alike,” she told Lovin Malta.
