U18 Maltese Women’s Basketball Team Nabs Second Place In European Championships For Second Year Running

Malta’s U18 Women’s team claimed second place after their first defeat in the European Basketball Championship finals against Armenia.
Leading by a single point, Malta headed into the final quarter but were taken by surprise when Armenia left them trailing behind with a 79-73 victory to open the fourth quarter.
After a 15-2 run on their way up to the lead, the Armenian team made no haste in recovering their top spot leaving Malta on the second step of the podium for the second year in a row.
Malta’s U18 women’s basketball team made some serious strides at the European Championships in Andorra
Despite 19 points and 12 rebounds from teammate Mikela Riolo, the girls still fell behind, allowing Georgia to claim to bronze and Armenia to pick up the top spot with first place while the hosts fell to fifth in the final standings.
Moldova, Andorra and Monaco were fought out of spots in the semi-finals by the team, led by Sandro Farrugia, who took the girls all the way to the endgame. Malta had been unbeaten in the competition thus far, winning every match that lead them to the Final.
