Watch: Bayern’s Alphonso Davies Crashes Tigne 5-A-Side, Sends Maltese Players Into Frenzy

A regular five-a-side at the Tigne Point pitch turned into an experience of a lifetime for a group of Maltese youths as Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies suddenly popped up to join in the fun.

Isaac Micallef, one of the players, told Lovin Malta that the five-a-side was underway last night when Davies entered the pitch and sat down near the entrance.

“Most players weren’t close to the entrance but he then walked up to two of my friends and started speaking to them,” Isaac said. “At first they didn’t notice it was him, but then people started running slowly towards him and we noticed who he was.”

“Everyone went crazy and we asked if he would play with us.”

Davies complied and Micallef said the Canadian left-back ended up spending a good half an hour on the pitch, during which he scored twice – including a penalty.

Naturally, the Maltese players were determined to make life as hard as possible for Davies and heavily man-marked him, and at times it took up to five players to take the ball off him.

“It was one of the best experiences of my life,” Isaac said.

Following the game, someone cheekily updated Davies’ Wikipedia page to say he is set to join Sliema Wanderers for €60 million.

Widely regarded as one of the best left-backs in the world, Davies has been a Bayern Munich player since 2019 and is set to spearhead Canada’s efforts at this year’s World Cup.

He isn’t the only world-famous player who has travelled to Malta this week, with former Real Madrid midfielder Isco also spotted in Valletta.
