Watch: Kickboxing Legend And Four-Time K1 Champion Ernesto Hoost Trains Students In Malta

One of the greatest kickboxers of all time was in Malta over the weekend to give local students a unique training session they definitely won’t forget.
58-year-old Ernesto Frits Hoost is a Dutch retired professional kickboxer who showed impressive dominance between his debut in 1983 (in a match which he won by knockout in the second round) and his retirement in 2006. In that time, he found particular success at the largest kickboxing organisation in the world, K1. In fact, since its debut in 1993, Hoost was crowned the K1 champion four times, and even won the only K2 tournament ever organised back in 1993, just months after his stellar debut in the discipline.
Generally considered to be among the greatest strikers of all time, Hoost became known for his speed, accuracy and tactics… and that’s exactly what he was in Malta to teach over 150 very eager students.

On Saturday, Master Noel Mercieca from Team Noel Club hosted a grand seminar at St Julian’s West Grand Hotel, attracting students from various local kickboxing and K1 clubs. This was the second time after 11 years that Hoost was invited as a main trainer to lead the seminar, and he definitely delivered.
“Compared to previous seminars, this one was more advanced because of Ernesto Hoost’s presence and expertise, as well as the organisation’s valuable work,” a press statement on the successful event said. “The students had the privilege of attending two training sessions: one in the morning and another in the afternoon. Trainer Ernesto Hoost’s attention to detail was evident during the whole training sessions as he began to explain to the present students all the tactical skills that had enabled him to succeed on a global scale.”
Thanking Hoost for accepting this second invitation, Mercieca pointed out how the presence of such prestigious athletes helps the local sports of kickboxing to raise the level of success, saying the local clubs’ and their members’ attendance gives him courage to organise events of this size in the coming future.
