Lionel Messi has just clinched the 2023 Ballon d’Or, marking an incredible eighth time he’s secured this prestigious award. This achievement extends his record, solidifying his legendary status in the sport.
“Thank you very much, to share this with my national team-mates for what we were able to achieve with the national team,” he expressed, while receiving the award.
“The entire group, the coaching staff, everyone involved. I’m delighted to be here once more to be able to enjoy this moment one more time.”
Messi, currently with Inter Miami and a prominent figure in the Argentina national team, previously played for Paris Saint-Germain.
He captained the Argentine squad to a historic victory at the World Cup in Qatar last December, putting an end to a 36-year-long wait for the South American nation.
At 36 years young, Messi now boasts three more Ballon d’Or wins than any other player in history, highlighting his unparalleled talent and contribution to the world of football.
