WATCH: Malta’s First Female MMA Fighter Destroys In Pro Debut
Malta’s first ever professional Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter just made her professional debut over the weekend – and she slayed.
Marilyn Micallef is a Checkmate Fight Club MMA fighter and the first ever female professional MMA fighter from Malta, and she was recently matched with professional Italian fighter Diana Tavares.
In a short but brutal match, Micallef used constant head and upper body shots, usually as a powerful right hook, to drill her opponent down. Soon enough, Marilyn successfully completed a take down of Tavares, and the real grappling began.
As the two fighters battled for the top position, constant right hooks from Micallef as well as the use of chokeholds and dragging techniques wore Tavares down, allowing Micallef to get the upper hand and finally finish with a beautiful guillotine chokehold after 3 minutes and 29 seconds into the very first round.
Scouts from some of the biggest global fighting brands, like Bellator and F1, were present and visibly impressed as the crowd applauded her. She also received lots of praise online for her quick yet powerful display.
Marilyn herself also thanked everyone for the support, and let everyone know that she was raring for her next fight.
