WATCH: Three Maltese Men Currently Swimming Around The Island To Raise Awareness

Earlier this month three Maltese men announced that they will be performing the record breaking Round Malta Swim.

Neil Agius, Gilbert Bartolo and Richard Zerafa have embarked on their amazing challenge to swim around Malta yesterday. Their 70 kilometre non-stop swim is taking place right now, and here are the highlights of their journey so far.

And in case you’re wondering, that white stuff is Sudocrem. Since they will be doing an average of 70,000 – 75,000 strokes for this challenge, the swimmers had to cover themselves in it to protect their bodies against abrasive elements, skin irritation and jellyfish.

The guys started their journey in Marfa bay, Mellie?a

They have medical crews, helpers and even swimming buddies accompanying them

They need to stop regularly to keep themselves fed and hydrated

The assisting crews keep their distance but are always ready to help

The sea was not as calm as expected, but nothing can keep our boys from swimming

Transport Malta are also doing their best to keep the swimmers safe

Along with the Emergency Response Rescue Corps

The three swimmers got to enjoy a very picturesque sunset

Most probably at this point we would’ve given up, but there’s no stopping these swimmers

This man-machine is enjoying himself so much that he’s not even taking his full breaks

And they even got to witness some magical Maltese scenery

Neil was way ahead and already in Sliema just six hours into the challenge

Richard was already at the Freeport by 4.00am

Closely followed by Gilbert

More backup crews came forward to assist the boys in their challenge

Neil got in ?urrieq just in time to watch the sunrise

Neil got to see Filfla from far away

While Gilbert enjoyed amazing views during his swim

Neil is expected to finish his swim later this afternoon

40 kilometers in and the morale is still high

Only one hour left for this gruelling challenge to end

There’s no stopping these guys

Richard had to pull out due to a shoulder injury, but he’s still totally our hero

Gilbert had to stop due to the exhaustion and strong currents he had to face

Minutes to go to reach the finishing line!
