Earlier this month three Maltese men announced that they will be performing the record breaking Round Malta Swim.
Neil Agius, Gilbert Bartolo and Richard Zerafa have embarked on their amazing challenge to swim around Malta yesterday. Their 70 kilometre non-stop swim is taking place right now, and here are the highlights of their journey so far.
And in case you’re wondering, that white stuff is Sudocrem. Since they will be doing an average of 70,000 – 75,000 strokes for this challenge, the swimmers had to cover themselves in it to protect their bodies against abrasive elements, skin irritation and jellyfish.
The guys started their journey in Marfa bay, Mellie?a
They have medical crews, helpers and even swimming buddies accompanying them
They need to stop regularly to keep themselves fed and hydrated
The assisting crews keep their distance but are always ready to help
The sea was not as calm as expected, but nothing can keep our boys from swimming
Transport Malta are also doing their best to keep the swimmers safe
Along with the Emergency Response Rescue Corps
The three swimmers got to enjoy a very picturesque sunset
Most probably at this point we would’ve given up, but there’s no stopping these swimmers
This man-machine is enjoying himself so much that he’s not even taking his full breaks
And they even got to witness some magical Maltese scenery
Neil was way ahead and already in Sliema just six hours into the challenge
Richard was already at the Freeport by 4.00am
Closely followed by Gilbert
More backup crews came forward to assist the boys in their challenge
Neil got in ?urrieq just in time to watch the sunrise
Also, please don’t forget to take part in the #WaveofChange challenge yourself
Richard arrived at ?urrieq in great spirits about three hours ago
Neil got to see Filfla from far away
While Gilbert enjoyed amazing views during his swim
Neil is expected to finish his swim later this afternoon
40 kilometers in and the morale is still high
Only one hour left for this gruelling challenge to end
There’s no stopping these guys
Richard had to pull out due to a shoulder injury, but he’s still totally our hero
Gilbert had to stop due to the exhaustion and strong currents he had to face
Minutes to go to reach the finishing line!
Follow Richard, Neil and Gilbert live here and keep your eyes peeled for any updates.
