Fans of Valletta FC were out in full force yesterday as Malta’s capital city celebrated the team’s championship win. Earlier this week the team had overcome Gżira United to become Premier League Champions for the 24th time – and the time had come to celebrate.

Republic street was packed with families, people in costumes, and miniature floats on cars. However, most recognisable of all was the funeral matches all over the city.

Valletta FC fans were solemnly carrying coffins adorned in the colours of their opponents, with the colours of major rivals like Floriana as well as Sliema and Gżira forming part of the coffin celebrations.

Some supporters even had a few cheeky comments and prayers dedicated to their fallen rivals

This wasn’t the first time Valletta FC celebrated with a funeral march

But last night’s celebrations definitely brought out an interesting host of characters and costumes
