Daniella Gatt has completed a cycling challenge from England to Malta in memory of her late sister who passed away from cancer, raising over £6000 for St John’s Hospice through her incredible feat.

“We made it! It’s been an amazing trip and I’m super proud of what we’ve achieved. 24 days, 2000 miles, average temps of 34°C, crazy elevation, terrible roads, and even worse drivers. Almost £6000 (this has now been reached) has been raised…we did it,” Daniella said in an enthusiastic Facebook post.

Daniella’s sister, Chantelle Williams, passed away 10 years ago with bowel cancer. And the Tour de Chan was done in her memory.

The route started from Chantelle’s grave in Oxfordshire, they travelled all through England, France, Switzerland, and Italy to arrive at their final destination – Żebbuġ.

Amid the cycle, Daniella received some heartbreaking news when her Aunt Grace passed away. However, they soldiered on and continued the ride with her love and strength in their hearts.

This same cycling challenge was done back in 2013, a year after Chantelle died.

However, according to Daniella, once she completed that challenge, she vowed to do it again in 10-years-time.

“One year after she died Nicky and I cycled from her grave in Oxford to Malta, some 1700 miles raising money for the hospice. I said I would do the ride again in 10 years, so here we are!”

Both times, the cyclers raised money for St John’s Hospice where Chantelle was treated and “so well cared for” throughout her illness.

Well done Daniella and everyone else involved in completing this inspiring challenge
