Young, Maltese Juventini capped off an amazing display abroad, winning the first edition of an international tournament held in Licata, Sicily.

The World Cup ASC welcomed around 1,000 youth players hailing from 24 football academies. Among them was a team of diehard Maltese nine-year-olds who reeled in gold after overcoming all opponents. That’s right, they were undefeated.

Seven and eight-year-old Juventini also turned a few heads, placing second in their own respective groups.

Their prowess in the event even found its way into the headlines of the Italian press.

Speaking at the event was Matteo Barresi, the team’s coach. “Although our academy is very young, I am happy with the results obtained in this intense sporting season,” he said.

And even amid the success, Barresi maintained that his players’ journey is “only just beginning.”

Three teams of Maltese youths will now participate in another tournament, the Juventus Academy World Cup, set to take place in mid-June in Turin.

Juventus Academy Malta opened up last year, offering an opportunity for young footballers to develop their technical, emotional, and interpersonal skills according to the ethos of the Serie A club aged between six and 14.

Head coach Barresi and vice-head Alessio Capraro, who have been part of the Juventus team since 2013, are spearheading the whole operation.

Lovin Malta previously sat with Lorenzo Grossi, who oversees Juventus Academies across the entire continent, in an episode of Lovin Meets.
