Maltese weightlifters are currently gearing up to compete in the IWF World Junior Championships in Mexico.

The talented trio consisting of  Tenishia Thorton (18), Rylee Borg (17), and Kim Camilleri Lagana (15), is set to embark on their journey on 6th November, as they head to Mexico for this prestigious event.

The championships are scheduled to take place in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Before the championships, they will participate in a week-long training camp at the high-performance center in Mexico City alongside other international athletes.

The first Maltese athlete to step into action will be Kim Camilleri Lagana, who will compete on 15th November.

At just 15 years old, Kim has already achieved remarkable success, qualifying to compete in the under-20 category at the World Junior Championships. Her impressive achievements this year include winning a Bronze at the Europeans U-15, securing 2 silver and 1 bronze at the Commonwealth, and earning gold a few weeks ago at the European Union Championships, among other notable accomplishments.

The second to hit the stage is Tenishia Thorton who is set to compete on 18th November. Thorton, an experienced athlete, has already amassed an impressive collection of titles. Last year, she was crowned World U-17 Champion in Mexico.

This year has also been exceptionally successful for her, with gold and silver medals at the Commonwealth and gold at the Mediterranean Championships, among other accolades. She is currently engaged in intensive training as she aims to achieve high results in the upcoming IWF Grand Prix, an Olympic qualification event scheduled for next month in Doha.

Rylee Borg will be the last Maltese athlete to compete in the championships, with his event scheduled for 19th November. This event represents a significant milestone in his career, as it is his most significant competition to date.

Despite the magnitude of the event, Rylee has already had a successful year, securing two silver medals at the Commonwealth in India and winning a gold medal at the Mediterranean Cup, which was organized in Malta just a few weeks ago.

The Maltese team will be under the guidance of Jesmond Caruana, who will provide coaching and support as they strive for success in the IWF World Junior Championships.

Good luck to the three superstars!
