Ħamrun ‘Small Explosion’ Report Triggers ‘Extensive’ Police And Army Exercises Outside Labour And PN Headquarters
The road of the Labour Headquarters in Ħamrun was closed off and police and Armed Forces of Malta called in after a report of a “small explosion” in the area. Moments later, another “extensive” exercise was triggered just down the road, in front of the PN Headquarters in Pieta’.
When contacted by Lovin Malta, police confirmed that a call came in at 8.20am after a “suspicious metal object” was spotted in front of a house near the party headquarters, with the army’s Explosive Ordinance Disposal unit being swiftly dispatched to the area. The road has now been closed as a precaution, with One News uploading an update from the scene.
However, when asked about the small explosion, police could neither confirm nor deny that this had happened, instead telling Lovin Malta that they were waiting for more updates from the scene.
Moments later, though, Prime Minister Robert Abela took to social media to confirm that an explosion was heard outside Ħamrun’s Mile End, calling for everyone to remain calm and saying everyone inside the building was totally fine.

Now, the PN confirmed in a post that an “extensive” but precautionary exercise by both the Police and the Armed Forces of Malta is currently underway in front of its own headquarters.
In a post shared to social media moments ago, the Nationalist Party shared a photo from the scene, showing a number of police vans and one van from the AFM’s Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit.
