Malta’s Transport Minister As An Undercover Taxi Driver Makes For Some Very Satisfying Viewing

Bitching about traffic right behind the Transport Minister’s back is a mood and a half.

A bunch of unsuspecting eCabs customers got to do just that this week when Ian Borg went undercover as a taxi driver and got to listen to some honest reviews about the road situation.

Filmed for popular TV show Xarabank, the 11-minute segment is a cathartic joy to watch for anyone who isn’t quite impressed with the ongoing roadworks taking over the country.

Borg’s face when he is told by a group of Gozitan students that the Gozo tunnel would make no difference to their lives is one beautiful example.

Then there was the woman who told him she had to get a taxi because public transport would take too long.

Perhaps the most perfect moment comes when a conversation about tree-chopping distracts Borg and he ends up driving through a blocked road, reacting in the most relatable way:

“Mela dan għalquh?” (Did they close this road too?)

Basically everyone in Malta every day.

Disappointingly, one of the harshest critics of Ian Borg turned out to be an actress planted by Xarabank to make sure he’s really forced to squirm. But at least, squirm he did, because she raised some very pointed issues.

Here’s the full clip.

Besides his taxi driver moment, Borg yesterday fielded questions on Xarabank about all the issues under his portfolio.

There was even one cheeky question from his colleague Education Minister Evarist Bartolo, who was once on the receiving end of a Xarabank question by a very precocious Ian Borg.

Did you watch the show last night? What was your favourite bit?
