WATCH: St Julian’s Mayor Wants More Police Between 11pm And 5am To Defend Residents
More police presence is needed between the hours of 11pm and 5am to protect the property and peace of mind of residents, according to the mayor of St Julian’s.
“St Julian’s has turned into Paceville,” Albert Buttigieg told Lovin Daily today, explaining how the entertainment scene in Paceville leaves a domino effect on the rest of St Julian’s.
He said residents often experienced vandalism, such as this week when a group of young people decided to jump on one car bonnet to another, damaging the cars of residents.
“Sometimes you find people doing their business on your door, sometimes they ring the doorbell at night and run away, sometimes you find them having sex in your terrace,” he said, adding that parts of the village should have buffer zones to separate the commercial and entertainment spaces with residential spaces.
Buttigieg said the Police Commissioner agreed with the idea of a special police squad to patrol in the dead of night, but action was still waiting to be taken.
Residents should be given a car space each and the rest of the roads should be pedestrianised, he added, warning that many elderly people were struggling because family members would not be able to find parking to visit them.
