Watch: 69 Down, 91 To Go! Neil Agius Hits 24-Hour Mark By Swimming From Malta To Gozo
As a long and cold night of swimming came to an end, Neil Agius marked 24 hours of non-stop strokes by starting the next phase of his Big Swim: Gozo.
This morning, just after Neil had hit the 24-hour mark at 9am, Lovin Malta joined his team way off the coast, in between Malta and Gozo, as he breached the 69-kilometre milestone with some 91 kilometres left ahead of him.
Despite last night being particularly challenging because of the cold he felt earlier on, at about 9pm, both Neil and his team’s spirits are as high as ever, with a diamond formation of sailing keeping him safe and on course and today’s sunny morning cheering everyone up as they laughed and joked around, even with the former Olympian himself.
“We’re making great progress, exactly what we planned, Neil’s partner and number one supporter Lara Vella told the press and VIPs on the small boat as the national hero cont, continued to swim closer and closer to Gozo.

Neil left Mellieħa Bay just after 9am yesterday morning, with the plan being to break his own world record, along with a number of other national ones.
When he hits 104 kilometres, he will become the first person to swim around the entire Maltese Archipelago. At 140 kilometres, he will have beaten any standing or potential world record there is. But in classic Neil fashion, his target is that of a behemoth 160 kilometres.
Lovin Malta will be bringing you all the updates from Neil’s Big Swim, so stay tuned for more!
