Watch: ‘Apocalyptic Scenes’ – Crane On The Brink Of Collapse Promptly Dismantled After Sparking Concerns
A resident from Victoria, Gozo, has reported that “apocalyptic scenes” were unfolding in the area as a crane could be seen visibly swaying on the brink of collapse.
The resident, who asked to remain anonymous, uploaded images from the scene showing the crane towering and swaying above the former Cupid building.
“Many are fearing it may collapse,” the post read, “Police have sealed off the area and evacuated nearby residents as a precaution.”
The poster also attached an update to the comments stating that two additional cranes have entered the scene and “efforts are underway to stabilises the structure.”
Upon calling the authorities, Lovin Malta was informed that the crane is being completely dismantled as it sustained damages due to high-winds. On top of this, the area was in fact cordoned off to prevent any injuries, however no serious evacuations were reported.
The contractor who the crane belonged to is unknown at the time of writing, however, it would seem like the situation has been taken care of quite urgently.
The public is still urged to avoid the area for the time being until the scene is cleared of any danger.
