Deep in my heart is desire to see Claudette live on stage.

During yesterday’s performance of the ongoing Rapunzel pantomime by FM Theatre Productions, at the Manoel Theatre, attendees were treated to a surprise performance from a Maltese legend.

Claudette Buttigieg, former Maltese singing sensation turned Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, stunned the theatre with a performance of “Desire,” the 2000 classic that won the Malta Song For Europe and landed her in eight place at the Eurovision Song Contest of that same year.

Not to mention, the iconic song was also adopted as the official song for the 2001 UK gay pride.

Claudette happened to be attending the show, when suddenly her song was performed by the cast, prompting Buttigieg to join on stage.

“What an amazing moment! “Desire” made it to the song sheet at this year’s Panto and I ended up on stage too!” Buttigieg said on Facebook.

Fellow Maltese icon, Raphael Pace, who attended the performance, captured the moment live on an Instagram story appropriately captioned “Ħasdet.”

And stun she did, as the audience excitedly sang along as the legend herself graced the theatre with the timeless classic, before erupting in cheers as the song came to a close.

Did you catch Claudette’s performance live?
